Quince & Burdock

With a love for flowers and for community building through local efforts, I planted the first seeds for Quince & Burdock in early 2022. This is a beautiful and brand new journey for me and I am excited to have you with me!

Flowers are magical. From their humble beginnings as a seemingly inert seed to the way they captivate our attention and their ability to elevate a mood and a space, there is nothing as striking as the sensory experience of a bloom. That delight inspired me to start Quince & Burdock, a cut flower farm in Staunton, VA.

Knowing that everything we do on this earth has an impact, I am trying to create a positive one. I grow plants using as little plastic and as little fuel as possible- I do not have any large equipment and do not plan on getting any. All of the planting beds are built using the no till method in order to build better soil and capture more carbon. I compost everything I can, including cardboard! (Worms love cardboard!) I use natural fertilizers that feed the soil and the plants. I do not use any pesticides- in fact, I am trying to bring more insects to the farm! 99% of the flowers are started from seed right on the farm, reducing their carbon footprint. There is a large section of the farm that I have left just for the animals- trees for birds and logs for snakes and wild plants for deer.

I believe in the power of local efforts to build community, and in the wild beauty of nature. Thank you for your support!
